What is the k-value of a heat exchanger?
The k-value (also known as the heat transfer coefficient or U-value) indicates how efficiently a heat exchanger transfers heat between two media. A higher k-value means:
- Improved heat transfer
- More compact design possible
- Higher process efficiency
The k-value is influenced by flow velocity, viscosity, choice of material, fouling and the type of heat exchanger.
