FAQ

How are heat exchangers used in hydrogen production and electrolysers?

During hydrogen production, heat is released at various points, whilst at others cooling is required. Heat exchangers ensure that the temperature of process flows remains within the desired limits, thereby contributing to a safe and efficient plant.

Within electrolysers, heat exchangers are used, amongst other things, for:

  • Cooling of the electrolyte;
  • Temperature control of process water;
  • Heat integration between different process stages;
  • Recovery of residual heat.

As hydrogen systems often operate at high pressures and place stringent demands on material compatibility, every application requires a carefully selected heat exchanger.
