30 MW high-pressure steam for district heating Nijmegen

The municipality of Nijmegen, Province of Gelderland, Nuon, network operator Alliander and ARN, a waste energy plant in Nijmegen, officially started the installation of a heat network for the region in March 2014. A lot of heat is released during the incineration of waste. At ARN, the heat is largely converted into electricity, but not all residual heat was used. 14.000 existing and new-build homes and a few companies will soon be heated through the installation of this heat network. This heat recovery can reduce the CO2 emissions of these 14.000 homes and businesses by around 70%.

For this project, Kapp supplied three Vahterus units (1 × 14 series and 2 × 9 series), which were recently hoisted in place. Together, these units couple 30 MW of high-pressure steam. Due to the very limited space on site, the compact Plate & Shell heat exchangers of Vahterus are the most suitable solution. The three units had to be hoisted between all sorts of constructions and structures and that didn’t make the job any easier.†For this project, Kapp supplied three Vahterus units (1 × 14 series and 2 × 9 series), which were recently hoisted in place.
