A Plate & Shell heat exchanger combines the high thermal efficiency of a plate heat exchanger with the robustness of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. This makes this type particularly suitable for processes involving high pressure, high temperatures and a compact installation space.
Plate & Shell heat exchangers are widely used in the chemical industry, power stations, cooling systems, heat pumps and industrial heat recovery. Thanks to their fully welded construction, they are suitable for demanding media, such as ammonia, CO₂ and other refrigerants, whilst at the same time achieving very high heat transfer rates.
When a standard plate heat exchanger lacks sufficient pressure resistance and a traditional shell-and-tube heat exchanger proves to be too large or less efficient, a Plate & Shell heat exchanger often provides the optimal solution.
In practice, Kapp has replaced numerous shell-and-tube heat exchangers with Plate & Shell heat exchangers, particularly in the chemical industry.
