30 MW high-pressure steam for district heating Nijmegen

The municipality of Nijmegen, Province of Gelderland, Nuon, network operator Alliander and ARN, a waste energy plant in Nijmegen, officially started the installation of a heat network for the region in March 2014. A lot of heat is released during the incineration of waste. At ARN, the heat is largely converted into electricity, but not all residual heat was used. 14.000 existing and new-build homes and a few companies will soon be heated through the installation of this heat network. This heat recovery can reduce the CO2 emissions of these 14.000 homes and businesses by around 70%.

For this project, Kapp supplied three Vahterus units (1 × 14 series and 2 × 9 series), which were recently hoisted in place. Together, these units couple 30 MW of high-pressure steam. Due to the very limited space on site, the compact Plate & Shell heat exchangers of Vahterus are the most suitable solution.
