King’s Day, alternative style

The Netherlands celebrates the birthday of its King on Monday, the 27th of April. The Dutch usually celebrate this day quite exuberantly, but due to COVID-19 King’s Day in 2020 looks entirely different.

No parties on the square this year, no street markets or fairs and no fireworks display. Nevertheless, we are trying to look at it from the bright side… an orange tompouce (pastry), an oranjebittertje (liqueur) and the flag hoisted in the garden or on the balcony! Plenty to look forward to.

In addition, the Dutch are solution-oriented by nature. The solidarity associated with King’s Day will certainly show, even though we will express it differently this year. Numerous initiatives have been taken to make this day a great celebration, despite everything! We wish everybody a fun and safe King’s Day!

Kapp will be closed on King’s Day (Monday, 27-04-2020).
